FORGE is a boutique consulting agency grounded in the philosophy that how you work matters as much as why you create and what you want to make. It is founded and run by Chie Morita (she/her) and Greg Taubman (he/him). They offer free regular writing sessions (Fast Fuel, check our calendar for dates!) and recently announced their inaugural Fellowship for 2021 (applications open September 30th, 2020).
HATCH (Harrisville Atelier for Theatre, Creation and Hypothesis) brings female-identified and non-binary artists to bucolic southern New Hampshire to begin development on a new piece of theatre. (HATCH 2020 was postponed, and therefore the 2020 residents are now the 2021 residents.)
Ring of Keys is an arts advocacy organization that promotes the hiring of musical theatre professionals -- onstage
and off -- who self-identify as queer women, transgender, and gender non-conforming artists.
The Sappho Project's mission is to provide a platform for women, trans, and gender non-conforming musical theatre book writers, composers, and lyricists to share their work, so that our industry more accurately reflects all perspectives, stories, and experiences. They recently closed applications for their inaugural W*rk Lab, a seven month, grant-providing workshop supporting the development of three new musicals by women, transgender, and gender non-conforming composers, lyricists, and book writers.
Statera Arts is an organization providing resources to women in the arts, including a mentor/mentee program, grants, and a national conference. Check out their resources page!
AWARDS & GRANTS
BILLIE BURKE ZIEGFELD AWARD (late summer, 2020 applications closed)
A prestigious grant in the amount of $10,000, The Billie Burke Ziegfeld Award aims to celebrate an emerging female composer or composer/lyricist who compellingly demonstrates outstanding artistic promise in musical theater composing and clearly demonstrates how the grant money & mentorship will further her artistic career.
The NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship is a $7,000 unrestricted cash grant available to artists living in New York State and/or one of the Indian Nations located therein. This grant is awarded in fifteen different disciplines over a three-year period (five categories a year) and the application is free to complete. The NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship is not a project grant, but is intended to fund an artist’s vision or voice, at all levels of their artistic development. Applications for the 2020-21 award cycle will open in Fall 2020.
The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, established in 1978, is given annually to recognize women who have written works of outstanding quality for the English-speaking theatre.
